–adverb

–noun
2.
meaningless chatter; idle gossip.
-phrase
A phrase echoic of gibberish or incessant chattering.
You can love it, hate it, or be indifferent to it – but the fact is that you cannot escape the blah blah in an MBA. Sometimes it’s expected (for example, in a class called “Managerial Effectiveness”) but sometimes it’s totally unexpected (such as in a Corporate Finance exam).
I am a self-confessed fan of blah blah, having studied several different forms of it for five years and coming out with not one, but two bachelors degrees in blah blah. But even I was taken aback when I got to the last question in the Corporate Finance final exam, and it asked “What is your key take-away from this class?”
Wow, talk about blah blah potential. Should I talk about the ‘60s-style waving your arms up and down dance move which represented stocks with -1 correlation? Or should I talk about the Markowitz cookbook recipe, which any dummy can use to cook up a Portfolio T? In the end I decided to talk about diversity. “Diversity” is the word of the moment. Just as it helps to make the highest performing team in Managerial Effectiveness, it also helps to create the highest performing investment portfolio in Corporate Finance.
It amuses me that by the end of this degree, I will have eight letters after my name. MBA BA LLB. Or, if you rearrange it, it spells M B BLA BLA. (Masters and Bachelors of BLA BLA)
Fitting, isn’t it?
